Greenthink is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the work we carry out. We are very aware of the implications of our trade on the environment and therefore have sought a number of ways to reduce the effect of our work on other species and on the environment.

Development of our Bee Sanctuary

To try to counteract some of the negative elements of providing a pest control service, and aware of how important our bee population is to our environment, Greenthink has developed the honey bee rescue service, which has now been operating for over 8 years.  Our technicians have been trained in beekeeping to enable them to collect and rehome bee swarms in our sanctuary which we offer free of charge.  We currently have over 70 hives of happy bees!

Reducing our carbon footprint in the field

  • We plant a tree for every new contract customer who signs up for our services
  • We are investing in LPG vehicles to reduce emissions.
  • We recycle used rodenticides and flykiller UV tubes
  • We have installed trackers on our vehicles which monitor driving habits to encourage our field staff to drive more carefully
  • We have a policy of removing rodenticides after use to avoid harm to the local area
  • Our technicians are all trained in best use of rodenticides and insecticides to use the minimum amount possible for maximum effectiveness.
  • We conduct an environmental impact assessment before any work is carried out
  • We recommend use of non-toxic treatments where possible to avoid damage to non target species or the local environment

Reducing the carbon footprint of our offices

  • We encourage homeworking of office staff where possible to reduce vehicle emissions and car pooling when this is not possible.
  • We use only green energy suppliers.
  • Recycling of paper and printer consumables, and use of eco software to reduce printing needs.
  • We have switched to LED lighting and reinsulated our offices to reduce energy wastage, and installed windows to avoid using air conditioning in the summer months.
  • Our boilers and fridges have been upgraded to those with highest energy efficiency, and the old equipment has been recycled.
  • We have recycling and compost bins to reduce rubbish into landfill.
  • we have installed Solar panels on our offices to cut energy costs.
  • We recycle or return product packaging to our suppliers and request that the majority of our pest control suppliers remove bulk packaging from our orders.
  • We use sustainable cleaning and biocide products both in our offices and out in the field.
  • We have changed from posting invoices to sending by email.

We hope that these small changes will minimise the environmental impact of running our business, but also reduce costs which we can pass onto our customers.
